Spring in Le Lioran: nature awakens
Snow-capped peaks, flowering meadows and trails reopening: spring in the heart of the Cantal mountains, starting from the Chalet des Alpages.
In spring, the snow retreats from the slopes and the mountains wake up. Waterfalls roar with the snowmelt, meadows turn green again and fill with daffodils and gentians. Mild days, cool nights, varied landscapes: nature is unspoilt, the trails are almost empty and you often come across wildlife. The ideal time to enjoy Le Lioran before the summer crowds.

As soon as the snow has melted, the Font d'Alagnon loop and the paths around the chalet are perfect for trail running and mountain biking.
The Pas de Cère waterfall
Near Vic-sur-Cère, about twenty minutes by car: spectacular during the snowmelt.
The Puy Griou
Our spring favourite: about 1 h 10 from the chalet, often with a little snow left at the summit. A real treat.
Festivals and traditions
The Fête de l'Estive and vintage vehicles
In late May, Allanche celebrates the herds moving up to the Cézallier summer pastures: hundreds of Salers cows wearing their bells parade through the village to the sound of brass bands, with a local produce market and cheese-making demonstrations. On Sunday, a long hike follows the herds' route.
In June, Murat hosts its Vintage Vehicle Day: around 400 classic cars, motorbikes and lorries on display in the old town, and a grand parade through the streets.

The resort in the sunshine
On some long spring weekends, such as Ascension or Whitsun, activities at Le Lioran resort may reopen before the summer season: check opening times before you come. And in Murat, a medieval town a few minutes from the chalet, markets and cheese dairies showcase Cantal and Salers PDO cheeses.

Make the most of the fine weather
On sunny days, settle into the deckchairs on your apartment's terrace or balcony to have lunch outdoors, light the barbecue or read in the sun. In the evening, admire superb sunsets over the mountains from your apartment.
At Les Grands Alpages, the spring sunshine floods in through the large picture windows: a real sense of well-being. When the night turns cool, the pellet stove takes over for evenings of board games and table football with family or friends.

Practical information
✓ Season: from April to June. The summits can stay snow-covered until May: check trail conditions.
✓ In the mountains: the weather changes quickly and nights stay cool. Bring warm clothes and good shoes.
✓ Festivals: dates change every year: check the programme with the Hautes Terres tourist office.
✓ Access: via the RN122, about 1 h 30 from Clermont-Ferrand, or by train to Le Lioran station.
✓ At the chalet: each apartment has its own outdoor space (large terrace, balcony or sun terrace), a parking space and self check-in. From April to October, a barbecue and deckchairs are available.
